Matthew Supersad
What do you do: Director, Editor, Grader, Camera Operator, Film reviewer
Genre: Film, literature, theatre, culture, the Arts
Qualifications/Institute:
- 1st in MML French & Spanish, University of Manchester;
- Diploma in digital film-making, SAE London
Ambition: Writer, Director and Editor of feature films; working to promote film-making in Britain; Novelist; Film critic
Bio: Matt studied French and Spanish at Manchester University where he developed a love of world cinema. Absorbing the fundamentals of film theory, he learnt to observe film with an academic eye. From an editorial angle, Matt had a couple of film-related articles published in student magazines.
Working as Dailies Editor for the 2005 Commonwealth Film Festival in Manchester broadened Matt’s experience of cinema from a hands-on, organisational perspective. His responsibilities included producing and compiling content for the Dailies, as well as contributing copy to the festival programme. That year he also wrote notes to accompany several films showing at the Viva Spanish Film Festival.
Eager to exploit his knowledge of film theory for practical ends – particularly those of writing, directing and editing – Matt moved to London to study digital film-making at the SAE Institute. However, he sustained his passion for writing about film by working for the online magazines FilmExposed and movieScope, refocusing his academic eye for a more populist – albeit cineliterate – demographic.
Matt is now involved in filming live events, creating virals for company websites, and corporate videography and postproduction work. He has also branched out into Continuity Supervision and will take on the role in his first feature film later this year.
